About

Hi. I’m Julian Simpson. I’ve been a systems administrator and build manager for years. I set this blog up in very late 2007. Why did I do it?

I’ve seen some of the best developers in the world fail to deliver software.

It’s not often the code itself that fails. It’s getting that code from a developer’s computer, through QA and running in production. As Michael Nygard puts it: “It’s as if we prepare for a baby’s birth but then make no provision for a child’s life”.

I believe that many of our woes in writing software stem from a failure to consider the full lifecycle. We’ve been led to believe that success rests in the development of the code, not in the deployment, testing and operation of that code – where it counts.

Only a community can help fix this – if you feel strongly about this please do make yourself known and connect.
