Responsible for executing multiple software product builds and maintaining Configuration Management infrastructure. Works on complex problems, with minimal supervision, where analysis of the situation requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Work requires exercising judgment within broadly defined practices in selecting methods and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Must work effectively within a team environment and serve in a leadership role. Requires the ability to determine methods on new assignments and/or provide guidance to lower level staff. Understands, follows, and helps drive the defined engineering development process. The job specifications are normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience and a minimum of 8 years related experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Executes multiple software product builds on Windows, Linux, AIX, HPUX, and Solaris.
• Develops, enhances, debugs, and maintains builds and build processes.
• Ensures and maintains release consistency and recreatability.
• Administers and enhances version control, defect tracking, and build automation systems.
• Archives released deliverables.
• Trains and mentors development teams in use of configuration management tools and best practices.
Required Experience and Education:
• Requires knowledge of product build, release management, version control, and configuration management principles and practices.
• Requires knowledge of Windows, Linux, AIX, HPUX, and Solaris.
• Knowledge of configuration management products, such as IBM Rational Change and Synergy, CVS, Subversion, Git, Jira, etc.
• Knowledge of build automation tools such as IBM Rational Build Forge, Hudson/Jenkins, etc.
• Knowledge of software asset archiving techniques and procedures.
• Knowledge of agile methodologies and their application to the configuration management process.
• Requires strong programming, makefile, ant, maven, and scripting language skills.
• Requires excellent oral and written communications skills to work effectively with others inside and outside departmental boundaries.
• Requires strong organization skills to produce quality work, meet tight schedules and coordinate with other departments.
• Requires the ability to balance configuration management best practices with market pressures for product deliverables.
• Requires initiative and the ability to influence events in order to achieve results, rather than passively accepting them.
Preferred Experience and Education:
• Job requires ability to effectively handle very complex issues/projects on a regular basis.
• Responsible for ownership of a major configuration management project or process.
• Initiates the use of new technologies.
• Provides leadership on critical projects.
• Delegates tasks as needed.
